Yuck
Yuk? Are you in denial or something?
This is hot! As soon as I heard the Microsoft tablet rumor I had a feeling they would really try to "bring it" knowing that the almighty Apple tablet device is coming.
It's too bad that gizmodo leaked Microsoft's plans because it would have been a nice surprise come January.
I tellin y'all right now....Apple had better STEP UP come next year. The Apple tablet had better be "all that" and then some! But I think if Steve Jobs is really and truly screaming and whipping his people as hard as people says he has been lately then I think Apple can do it!
im sorry but that thing seems pretty ridiculous to me. yes, it looks pretty in mockup, but how are you supposed to use it? flat on the table..crappy; hold in hand..crappy; two separate screens..super crappy. to me its another example of microsoft trying to "compete" with apple by copying and then trying to one-up with a gimmick (who wants to bet theyre pushing for an oled screen?), with little understanding (or indifference) as to how it will actually be used.
this thing is so ridiculous that i think the only reason microsoft is releasing the mockup is so it doesnt look like it has its thumb up its a** again when apple comes out with the tablet.
ummm.... copy what?? Apple has not released a tablet and NONE of the rumors look like this. And this looks like the PERFECT student computer. This is not a laptop replacement, but an extremely useful tool for pretty much anyone. If the screens are the size of a piece of paper and it can be flipped up to look like a laptop it will be awesome. simply awesome. I hope Apple does something like this.
Jim
ok, answer me this then: how is its supposed to be used? seems a bit cumbersome to me. the least cumbersome way would be as you suggested, like a laptop, but that would give it only a few advantages over a laptop without the best feature of a laptop (besides the actual screen i guess), the keyboard. enlighten me.
"but how are you supposed to use it? flat on the table..crappy; hold in hand..crappy; two separate screens..super crappy."
i give you 1 year before you eat your own words moron.
a little testy are we?? youre on. retarded product.
Why is everybody saying how to use it. Is somebody ever writing on a paper? The lays on the table, thats exactly the same.
oh yeah, thats right, with a quil pen and an inkwell.
vote me down trolls.
apparently all the people working for microsoft have room temperature IQs cause they cant do anything right. instead they go on websites and talk them up like theyre not pieces of crap.
Steve Jobs? jeez why doesn't he just die already? He blew it with the tablet and as a result will fall behind. Besides, who wants to pay $3000 for a tablet when the crunchpad and the archos 9 will be a fraction of the price for a great product. And with the blind fanboy following I see posting on here, no steve jobs will not allow you to gobble his knob. Bill Gates would kick his ass in a greco roman styled match anyday. Steve Jobs is still just angry he'll never have as much money as Bill.. WAH! Apple sucks, ipods suck, and the Iphone is the worst Facist product created in recent memory... You bitch about microsofts practices and yet give apple a ass on their own similar behavior?! Google voice app anyone? itunes nazis..If I buy a product I should be able to install any app or os i want on it..
I think if apple had intro'd this hardware concept we'd all be excited. Of course it would combine with apple's excellence in software, but still... The two-screen solution overcomes numerous problems including size and screen protection. I think the competition's great: I just hope this pushes apple to release a fully-featured product (ie, not one with hardware suitable for features that aren't yet "turned on" by software, as happened with the iPhone and iPod Touch. Those shortcomings are what we suffer when there's not a conpetitor pushing almost equally-good products into the market.)
I think if Apple introduced this piece of crap vaporware I would scream "Doh!". As a e-Book reader : ok, (if they use proper displays), as a netbook : rather not, as a tablet? Nope. Nothing to see. Just failure.
Folding means : to thick while folded, and to unstable while unfolded. (has to be put on a table, or something like that)
A tablet is just that : a flat tablet-like shaped gadget.
Not a wannabe book.
Nuff said.
I'm glad to hear you know the full tech specs on this unreleased product. too unstable while folded? maybe the other casing could prevent it from bending around all the way with some futuristic technology... like a hinge?
I dislike Microsoft with a passion... but I like this concept. It solves the key problem, what can you do with an open face delicate glass panel. You need a real book style like this. Now you have lots of usable screen, room for a touch keyboard, and you close it and protect the screen(s).
Something like this could be revolutionary. End up with a laptop half the size and potentially just as powerful.
The only thing I don't like is the stylus. But I assume you can make do with touch.
i agree about the stylus thing. It's soo 2003 Palm Pilot.
however in the video on gizmodo, you can see that the stylus is used for a lot of everyday tasks. Such as writing (anything it looks like, even a URL in the browser), and cut & paste. The stylus also allows for other things like making "stickies" it looks like.
it looks to me like a total hybrid, but i could, (kinda hopefully) be completely wrong.
This makes me want to see apple's even more lol
It responds to stylus AND touch, if Gizmodo is right. There are lots of things that might be better with a stylus (handwriting, for instance).
The Windows Tablet's/WinMobile's signature is the stylus input; the iPhones is touch. MS will overdo the stylus interface, I predict. I hope that Apple won't overdo the touch. Make it great with a stylus _too_.
meh. admit it, looks somewhat decent
(please don't thumb me down!)
THAT'S WHERE MY COMPUTER BOOK WENT TO
this looks overly complicated
I hope Steve Jobs is watching.
Apple it is time to put up or shut up....
We have been waiting for years for you to release this... .and now MS is going to beat you to it. Even if you have something coming soon, my hunch is Apple's touchpad is going to be very very similar in form factor to this (ie book style).
MS likely knows this hence the leak-- now they can for once say their design was out first and Apple copied....
I HOPE HOPE HOPE this pushes Apple to release something soon.
turn it sideways, make the bottom a virtual multi-touch keyboard and then we would be talking. Drop the leatherette middle management case and replace it with a sleek machined aluminum enclosure with a glowing apple and sign me up.
i think the leather makes a ton of sense solving hot-to-the-touch issues
i'd rather it came in a soft case so I didn't have to spend an additional $40 on a "Made for Mac" case

Yeah!
I'm sorry. Don't bash, I love Apple, but you have to get the jump on revolutionary products like this. With the iPod, they were the first real sophisticated mp3 player, and they consequently dominated the market. If this beats the tablet by at least a year, this will go the way of the Windows PC and be much more widely supported, no matter how much better Apple's product is.
first the zune HD, now this...
as much as i hate microsoft, i gotta admit they seem to be putting all their effort in bringing something capable of change the game, or better yet, start a new game, like this double-screened book
it looks amazing
i hope my dear Apple delivers when they announce their tablet...cuz the last revolution they made was the iphone and that is already over 2 years ago
Umm, it looks cool but just exactly what is the killer app here?
The iPhone provided a game changing browser, Wifi and combined one of the best music/video player with a cell phone.
What does Courier do that's unique?
Some things make a beautiful demo, but they block chunks in real use.
That said, the concept is potentially very cool.
Microsoft's problem is not that they can't innovate. It's that the don't. Witness IE. They were ferocious competitors with Netscape (yeah, often stealing its tech but sometimes coming up with something useful). Then after they neutralized Netscape... nothing for yyyyeeeaaaarrrrrsssss.
Now Apple's given them ideas and forced Ballmer to let his people actually come up with something. I hope very much Apple produces something that wows us. "Consolidating your lead year after year" might make you money, but it's not as exciting as innovation.
One thing I'm wondering is what the hell OS that thing runs? It's gotta be yet one more entirely separate platform Microsoft expects its devs to write to. The sad thing is, there's enough of them they probably will.
