Android comes to iPhone territory, AT&T

Engadget got the lowdown on Apple's newest competitor on the AT&T network.  The specs aren't too special and the processor is a bit last generation, but it does mark the first direct carrier competition between Google and Apple.  Due in August, it will have a special AT&T'ed up version of Android on it, which of course, will be horrific. Also, we're not sure if it is a misprint, but it says the resolution will be 240x320, half the picels of the iPhone.

You'll be able to throw a non-AT&T version of Android on there once you get it home so you don't have to click thru 8 AT&T pay-ware apps to check your email.

It's not the first direct carrier competition, they are on the same network in the uk and I would imagine other countrys.

Yup, same thing in Germany.

Why horrific, because of AT&T or Android?

I like android, and I'm European so I have no experience with AT&T messing up OSs

Yes, AT&T.  Imagine Vodafone , but worse

Sweet Jesus!

Yeah, I don't get that AT&T comment either. Up until recently I had an AT&T provided Nokia, and it was quite normal and not bastardized in any way I know of. The only customization I could see was the AT&T logo.

Verizon are the dudes who are well known for crapping up the OS of their phones. VCast. Disabled GPS. Removed Wifi circuitry. "Ooops I mistakenly launched the web browser because it's verizon-configured as the default and now I'm being charged per KB".

what's next? htc yorkshire???

2.8" screen, 1350 mAh battery ?? Beat it fatso !

I think it is hilarious that employees don't think they are being monitored when they leak this stuff. Then they get laid off and don't understand why... Ha!
