Gunman for iPhone is virtual Lasertag
Gunman ($.99 app store) is the most exciting use of an iPhone game we've seen in quite awhile. Basically, it turns your iPhone into an augmented Lasertag device. Remember those? More info below (via MobileWack)
Update: Gunman will be available for just $0.99 this Holiday week, so take advantage of this special opportunity to get the app that Engadget.com said "finally makes augmented reality awesome." Happy Holidays from ShadowForce!!!
"Gunman for iPhone finally makes augmented reality awesome" - Engadget
"It's part paintball, part first person shooter, part urban warfare, and it all happens on you're iPhone." - NBC Los Angeles
"Does it really work? If the concept sounds too futuristic, don’t worry – Gunman works flawlessly." - Geek.com
"Forget Counter-Strike because playing traditional FPS just officially went out of fashion. Gunman, the first of its kind augmented reality FPS game, just hit the App Store." - App Advice
Laser tag meets urban paintball in an epic battle against your friends--a heart pounding adventure that puts you and your iPhone directly in the line of fire. You have been recruited by Shadowforce to join an elite unit charged with taking out rogue agents (your friends) in the local area. Find a quick hiding place (a balcony or a dark corner will suffice) and dig in before the shots start flying.
Here's the run down:
-The game can be played anywhere but is best played in well lit areas
-The game uses the iPhone camera with a scope overlay and requires OS 3.1
-Select a time-limit for a quick match or the unlimited option for an extended battle
-Specify your opponent's shirt color so that your enemy can be detected
-Both hits and misses are counted so accuracy is important
-Multiplayer mode requires a WiFi connection to connect participants
-When you get hit by your opponent your iPhone will vibrate
-When you need to reload your weapon, shake your iPhone
-At the end of the game, the scores are tallied in a mission summary
-Screenshots captured during gameplay allow you to review your best shots (and catch cheaters)
-You can save your favorite shots to your photo album or send them to your Twitter followers at the end of the match
Yes, this really works!!!! For more about our groundbreaking technology, please visit http://playgunman.com/about.html.
The game is played in three modes:
One on One: Anyone is fair game. Specify your enemies shirt color and go wild. Our enemy recognition technology will take care of the body count, you take care of the shooting.
Multiplayer: A free-for-all WiFi bloodbath. It's you versus the world. Take out rogue agents in the local area and show them no mercy. The score matters, so watch your back.
Pro Mode: For experienced players who are too awesome for enemy color detection. In Pro Mode, your first thirty shots are saved for your review at the end of the match regardless of whether they are hits or misses, so make sure they are good ones.

This sounds insanely lame... Are 9 to 5 Mac guys friends with the dev or are they just very into some lame software?
i'd be afraid of dropping my phone while playing this game ... seems easy to slip out of your hand while you're running around/ducking/tapping furiously on your screen. some sort of wrist strap (like those that come on digital cameras) would help, though
Your lame, this is a very interesting idea.
If you're going to attempt to slag someone, make sure your spelling is up to snuff.
your = belonging to or associated with the person or people that the speaker is addressing
you're = contraction of "you are"......as in "You are a moron"
I just downloaded this on two iphones and tested it out. although your color choices are fairly limited, it did seam to work out pretty sweet. Great idea, good execution. worth the .99 cents it was for sale. Give me more augmented reality!!!!
i need my 99 cents back; Apple please add a way to get our money refunded!
Are you by any chance an employee of Presselite?
looks like a cool game. i have no doubts though that some players will eventually be detained or worse, shot, by cops misunderstanding what they're seeing.
you look like an idiotic moron all for an iphone app that only works within a certain vicinity of another iphone. I kinda feel like apple brain donors would get as much enjoyment from a ball of yarn.
