10.5.2 Update Breaks Linotype Font Explorer

UPDATE: Nice work Linotype - a fix has been posted

The discussion boards lit up almost immediately this evening with word that 10.5.2 and Linotype Font Explorer (which has quickly become a challenger for the industry standard font-management app) do not play nice together. It appears that FX makes other apps and the dock hang until you force-quit the font manager.

So if, like me, you use Font Explorer every day, and are in the middle of some mission-critical projects, now would not be the time to update Leopard.

We'll keep you posted. We got nothing else to do...

If you've already updated, all is not lost. Evidently, if you quit FE and then start all the apps you need, you can restart FE and all seems ok.

Comment above not true.  It seems that when any programme makes a call to Font Explorer it hangs, and the only way out is to force quit it. Only option appears to be to disable FE, and use FontBook in the interim until the problem is resolved.

Do you think Apple will care? They can't be bothered to optimize their operating system for every tom, dick and harry 3rd party software. Look for Linotype to do something about this before App-le.

Just yesterday I upgraded from 10.4.11 to 10.5.1 and then .2
I realized too, tat when quitting FX all apps work normally. Another workaround is to activate the "mission critical" fonts you need, then quit FX (activated fonts remain active) and then use your preferred app. That works for my CS3 apps and the rest of the bunch. Linotype is normally good to update swiftly. Lets keep our fingers crossed they'll read this.

Something's happened to Suitcase Fusion too. There are now dozens and dozens of copies of the following messages in the Console:
