AppleTV 2.4 Update, Remote App now has gestures?

AppleTV just got a somewhat significant update (2.4) allowing for new gesture support.  Flick gestures can now be used to manipulate Apple TV's menu options. Also, Video and Audio have new flick gestures that can be used to advance, rewind and replay.  No word yet if it breaks your precious Boxee...but you'd be smart to hold off until some sucker finds out for you.  Check the comments.  MacRumors also got a screenshot below

We'll be following along as more information becomes avaialble.  Feel free to add your experiences in the comments.  In the words of a certain someone...cool, but not cool enough.

Podcast menu has totally changed

Changes to TV Shows:

1) The sort has been reversed.
2) It displays the episode number in the list as well as date
3) On the My TV Shows there is a new sort option for Unwatched.

lagging and slow remote responsiveness is gone

I am finding that if I stop playing a movie, the position is not remembered unless the movie is being synced with AppleTV. This was not the case with the previous version and is kind of annoying.

Still wish they would add coverflow instead of those menus...it could work just like the iPhone/iPods

right and left to scroll
select to select an album and see the track listing
up and down to find the track you want
menu to return

I'd love it, too, but I somehow doubt the AppleTV has enough oomph to do that sort of thing smoothly. It'd probably end up frustrating you with sluggish response times.

I was shocked it took Apple multiple releases to add volume support for audio, though even more shocked Apple left out volume support for video in the last release.

There must only be 1 guy at Apple that works on AppleTV.

Does the apple tv have better support for iTunes U now?

I think this is from the patent that Apple made recently that seemed Wii Remote-ish control.

The Apple TV updated has added the ability to now see which videos have not been watched yet. This has been available in iTunes but never on Apple TV. A very welcome addition if you have a large collection of videos.

Is this the beginning of using the ATv for apps/games with the ipod/iphone as the controller.. possibly..?

Is this the precursor of apps/games on the ATV using the iphone/ipod as a controller.. I'm thinking so..

Need to reinstall... no biggy, instructions are here:

run the updaters from within the AppleTV menus, and it should work again.

Update Boxee FIRST... before you run 2.4!

Otherwise you'll need to reinstall.

i have a lot of Kurasawa (and other Japanese) movies that have 2 or 3 audio tracks - Japanese, english, and sometimes commentary.

i have to have 3 copies on my AppleTV, and only 1 on my iPhone. how the hell does that happen?
Downloading now - will inform.
