Give Adobe CS4 a try?

Adobe today updated it's Trial downloads page from CS3 to CS4. You can now give all of those shiny new CS4 Apps a 30 day spin.  Of note, they seemed to have employed a new Akami Java downloader (see image at the bottom) and the download speed is...how should we put it....slow.

I don't understand why they

I don't understand why they bother with a Java downloader in the first place, as pretty much any Mac browser has a built-in downloads window which serves the purpose fine, and any decent Windows browser has one too.

Adobe have been making their icons progressively worse since CS2.

don't get the ugly icons

Someone needs to tell Adobe that there are some good graphics tools out there now to help make good looking icons. It's embarrassing that Adobe finds their icons acceptable.

They're targeting Windoze

They're targeting Windoze users who prefer their icons, OS and GUI to be fugly.

I think they want their icons

I think they want their icons to look like periodic table elements!!

Java is plenty fast enough.

Java is plenty fast enough. It is so silly the people have this misperception that loves to be repeated that Java is somehow slow. Their network can be slow. Gee, lets write everything in assembler because I hear compiled languages are slow. Give me a break.

for those who program in Java. Fortunately the rest of the computing community seems immune to that reality distortion field.

If you think the download experience is bad wait for the install

Check out this link for a detailed critic of the install experience.

No, thanks

Get your new, improved, faster, sleeker, Adobe Creative Suite Platinum, Gold, Iridium, Tin, Lead, or Zinc versions, starting at only $1200. Sure it was several years late to OS X, and sometimes our software would lose a race with molasses on a cold day, and yes, periodically you do have to ask Adobe - nicely - to continue to use the products you license, but, hey, come on, we're Adobe. Life just isn't life without us. You need us a lot more than we need you.

Anyone dumb enough to keep buying that line deserves whatever Adobe does to him.

I'll pass.

CS4 Downloads

Well....

1.If you 'View Source' on the Java window & scroll down, then copy the download web address to Safari's toolbar you can download CS4 in the normal way - hit about 475kb/s for the 1GB Photoshop download.

2. 1GB for 1 app.

3. You have pay for the Master Collection DVD trial as they won't let you download it.

4. Skip to CS5 which may well be 64bit / able to utilise the GPU.

Why CS3 to CS4?

Having bought CS3 earlier this year after using CS for years, why ever would I upgrade to CS4? Not to mention that Adobe wants too much $$$ for the update.

how to install on CS3?

I have a working Photoshop / Dreamweaver / Falsh CS3 installation on my mac, how could I install CS4 without mess up CS3 apps?
