You know how we feel about MMS. It is an outdated technology that ties your communication to a carrier and doesn't offer many of the benefits of email, let alone more modern technologies like IM. That being said, we know a lot of you out there can't wait to get your hands on it.
AT&T's official launch date is September 25th, a few weeks beyond the "Late Summer" release promised at WWDC. However, according to the Consumerist, AT&T has been turning a few AT&T customers' MMS capabilities on by disabling the MMS opt-out code. No reason was given for the changes.
Mediaite's Ash Kalb discovered that his iPhone suddenly had MMS after a recent upgrade, and theorizes that AT&T is slowly removing the MMS opt-out codes on iPhone users' accounts.
Perhaps they are testing the ability of AT&T's frail network to withstand the MMS onslaught? Or they are trying not to get sued. Or "under-promising and over-delivering". Whatever the reason, we're sure many of you will want to check your iPhones and comment below.

This is the way to do it
If they just suddenly enable them all on the 25th then everyone will use it at the same time to test it out, bringing down the network. Rolling it out slowly a few at a time would lessen the impact.
Once I read this I called
Once I read this I called AT&T and demanded that mms be activated on my iphone since i am paying just as much as the people who had it activated. I doubt it will do anything but im still on hold. Ill let everyone know if anything avails

I don't understand how this is working? If we're all running the same OS, what is it that was added to your specific upgrade to allow for MMS without the hack to enable the option on your iPhone? Me confused.
Late, not Early
MMS isn't 2 weeks early, It's 2 years late.
I JUST CALLED AT&T, DEMANDED
I JUST CALLED AT&T, DEMANDED MMS AND THEY ACTIVATED IT FOR ME!
BREAKING NEWS ! Or not.
We've got MMS for years in France, even if we had to wait for iPhone OS 3.0 to grab it on our favorite device. But hey, big news : it's NOT big news. It doesn't worth all that excitement.
P.-S.: Sorry for my English. I do my best with all I learn.

AT&T MMS
We should all be so lucky they are releasing it !! ( shaking my head)
LOL
LOL, the AT&T rep said that they can't enable MMS on the phone right now because the official date was set to the 25th, but get this: when I asked the person about tethering, they said that they "are looking into this" because the people that are unofficially tethering are loading down the network. How ironic is that? We can't get official tethering, because the people that are doing it unofficially are loading down the network. So if this is why, what was the big deal before we could tether unofficially???
I prefer Push email
Using email means I have a copy on my phone and on my computer, MMS & texting just means I have to look in another place for info. Add to that, that it's not Spotlighted on the iPhone so I have to visually scrub them to find the info (PS Apple please add this to the next iPhone update, even better sync texting/MMS to systems so I can search it there also :-) )
the problem with email is
what people like you fail to understand is using email is not a realistic solution for most people. In order to use email for mms you have to:
1. know what carrier all your friends have and then figure out the corresponding email format for that carrier
2. tell all your friends to send mms to your email instead of your phone number
3. your friends need to have a phone that can send mms to an email address (many of them can't)
4. rely on your friends to remember that unlike everyone else, mms has to be sent to your email address and not your phone number.
we want mms because its a basic built in feature and having a different way of going about doing it pretty much ensures no one will ever send you an mms
3.1?
Does 3.1 add MMS to the settings? I'm still running 3.0 on my phone.

AT&T Employees Hate Their Company
While this doesn't directly relate, I had to call AT&T to get my dad's new iPhone account onto mine. She had to wait for the computer to do some stuff and she asked, "do u have any complaints for me to tell my supervisor about". As I started down my lost list she said, "Listen, we all hate this company. If it wasn't for my discount there is no way I'd have my service with them.". I laughed, she helped me, and I called back to give her a compliment call. Now if they could just make her president of AT&T, the world would be good
hahahahahahaha hilarious
