Chimeni Innolux (Foxconn, really) said to land iPad 2 touchscreen contract

Apple’s third supplier for the iPad 2’s touchscreen is Foxconn affiliate Chimei Innolux, reports Bloomberg. The remaining two suppliers of touchscreen modules for the iconic tablet are Wintek and TPK Holding, Apple’s long-time partners. The publication explains:

Chimei Innolux will begin supplying the components next month, said the people, who declined to be identified because the details aren’t public.

Bloomberg noted that Foxconn, which is planning on making iPads in Brazil and has lucrative contracts with Apple, should enjoy additional financial benefits stemming from this new business co-operation with Apple through its affiliate. This move by Apple can be seen as an effort to minimize display issues some iPad 2 owners are experiencing, ranging from dead pixels and backlight bleeding to speckles in the glass. On another note, Apple is known to spread risks by buying components from multiple suppliers. We recently learned Apple is considering an additional LED backlight manufacturer for iPads, a company called Everlight.
