Twitter trends shows Apple kept us tweeting in 2010

Apple is the key name in tech as iPad beats Android in this year’s Twitter Trends chart, reports the Twitter Blog, where the company today revealed its list of the top trends of 2010.

Apple’s iPad was the sixth biggest overall top trend, just ahead of Google Android at number 7. iPhone never made the overall list, which is headed by Golf Oil Spill and the FIFA World Cup.

Twitter’s Technology list is headed by the iPad, with Android in at number two. Apple’s iOS sits in third place, the iPhone at number four and MacBook Air seized ninth place, giving Apple an astonishing four slots in Twitter’s tech top ten.

Interestingly, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is at number four on the People of the year list. On Wikileaks, Twitter said:

This week, people are wondering about WikiLeaks, with some asking if Twitter has blocked #wikileaks, #cablegate or other related topics from appearing in the list of top Trends.

The answer: Absolutely not. In fact, some of these terms, including #wikileaks and #cablegate, have previously trended either worldwide or in specific locations.

Twitter Trends are automatically generated by an algorithm that attempts to identify topics that are being talked about more right now than they were previously.
