Roger McNamee of Elevation Partners is a well-known investor in both Wall Street and Silicon Valley. But two years ago, when he invested 20 percent of his private equity fund in smart phone has-been Palm, even his biggest fans were doubters.
He takes a few passive agressive stabs at Apple’s iPhone which should be of interest to readers here. Also, remember that not only is Palm’s Jon Rubinstein Apple alumni, but Elevation Partner’s co-founder is ousted Apple CFO (and interim CEO between Amelio and Jobs), Fred Anderson, who left under not-so-nice circumstances.
How rich is he? He’s "I don’t give a FSCK about what my hair looks like" rich.

I’m amazed at how people associated with the Pre can seriously ooo and ahh about things the Pre does which is an exact COPY of what the iPhone does.
Oooooo. Look it can scroll smoothly, zoom, rotate. WOW. I’ve never seen that before… except on the iPhone! Which is what this thing is copying 2 years later. Big whoop.
What happened to all the patents Jobs bragged about? How can the Pre copy all the gestures and pretty much everything on the iPhone?
But he just said they were working on this thing over two years ago. And since when does OSX mobile multitask? He has a point about WebOS being built from the ground up to be a mobile OS being better as opposed to a desktop OS modified for mobile use.

No. It’s not too bad, but if the iphone’s web experience is better. It’s about the same speed, but the experiences is “sexier” on the iphone.
I don’t care how rich he is he looks like a complete tool. If he’s really that rich he should get a stylist and listen to them.
If I had his money I wouldn’t give a CRAP about my hair. Its the people who NEEDS HIS MONEY that ought to worry about their appearance.
This guy is very enthusiastic, as he should be since he is being interviewed about a new product he invested in, but he’s definitely trying to create a reality distortion field of his own.
Palm is in DESPERATE need of something big to help save them. The advantage of iPhone is that EVERYONE knows about the iPhone. Very few (except for the tech/geek community) are aware of the Pre. It has some compelling features, but I’ve yet to see anything that would steer me away from the iPhone. And let’s not overlook the big elephant in the room — the iPhone App store.
Palm needs as large of an app development platform to compete. Price point (from what I’ve heard) is another problem.
It’s nice to see competition with the iPhone, but don’t expect Apple to stand still with the iPhone. And it will be extremely hard to catch up with their head start. But there is room for Palm in the market. But don’t expect them to take the lead.
It all depends on what products are already complete and ready to debut this year.
All the counter moves by Apple as far as products are concerned are already done.
They just need to be debuted to the public.
Its going to be an interesting year techwise I think.
I use everything on the iPhone except iTunes! The Palm doesn’t look like it even comes close to matching the iPhone. Sorry Charley!

I don’t need a not-so-smart Palm devise that automatically downloads maps to where I’m going. Like I need a daily downloaded map for going to work, the store, and to uncle Fred’s house.
3 clicks on the iPhone and I have my map for where I’m going. No thanks Palm!

When I watched the Palm Pre keynote, I was sold… until today when i watched this guy talking about the pre… he sucks!
Why do he have a iPhone and a iPhone 3G?
If the battery is broken so it only last 1 houre then get it fixed.
And there is nothing wrong with no hardware keyboard. I like not to have a hardwere keyboard.
But yes there is some nice ideas with making gps and calenda work togetter.
But wont it drain the batteri even faster that it has gps active all the time so it can chek where you are
