Is Apple hoping to hire a blogger?

Is Apple looking to create a corporate news and entertainment website populated by such things as short messages from chief blogger, Steve Jobs and maintained by more extensive announcements from a hired blogger?

It might be.

That’s the news coming out of Gawker this morning, which notes information from a reader claiming Apple employees held what could have been (note could have been) an attempt to hire TechCrunch mobile industry editor, Greg Kumparak, potentially to take on this new role.

It wouldn’t be entirely surprising. Hired bloggers are widely used across the mobile industry these days, you’ll find them penning (for top dollar, might I add) for the likes of Orange, Nokia and others. Why should a 21st-Century Apple be any different?

The potential employee in question isn’t saying anything, but that he might be looking for new employment makes sense, given the recent TechCrunch/AOL deal. Though no one’s job is under threat as a result of that deal, we’re told.

Here’s the story (courtesy of Ryan Tate):

“I could not hear what was going on, but about 10 minutes into the meal one of the Apple employees handed him a folder with an Apple logo on it. From what i’ve seen before, I’m almost certain this was an offer packet. They spent about 30 minutes talking about it. I could be wrong, but it really looked like Apple was trying to court him for a job.”
