Apple are p***ed. They pushed the unlimited plan so hard at the January conference. And now, AT&T removed that. I’m sure Apple are looking for alternatives.

AT&T removed it because Apple finally said, “You know what… you haven’t been telling us the truth about being able to provide our users with the experience we want them to have on your network. We’ll be taking our business elsewhere now.”

Pretty sure exclusivity is dead, so AT&T wouldn’t have to conform to Apple’s requests anymore.

So you say, “OMG HE MEANS A VERIZON IPHONE!” I said exclusivity is probably dead. And think about it: a dualband CDMA/GSM phone? Two dead-end technologies right there. You buy that and you’re at the whim of every telecom on the planet whether or not you’ll be forced to buy a new phone once they start shutting off the CDMA and GSM networks in a few years.

I called AT&T and asked “If I start the $29.99 unlimited plan with auto renewal am I grandfathered in?” YES was the response.

“What if I ordered an Ipad 3G and it has not arrived by June 6th so I can activate the $29.99 unlimited plan. I ordered it when that plan was available, but have not activated it because it is not in yet.”. DIDN’T YOU SIGN UP FOR A DATA PLAN WHEN YOU ORDERED IT? (Is this possible?) I said “No, I reserved it at the Apple Store and they will email me when it comes in.” SHE SAID WAIT WHILE I CHECK WITH MY SUPERVISOR. ANSWER: If you ordered it BEFORE June 6th and receive it afterword, CALL US and we will give you the $29.99 unlimited grandfathered in. We wouldn’t want to penalize you because you didn’t receive your iPad shipped in time.

What do you think? Will AT&T do it?

THIS IS ONLY HALF THE STORY – the real draw to the unlimited data plan was the ability to stop and start when needed (on a 30 day cycle basis) – now even if you have the grandfathered unlimited data, if you stop, you cannot get it back. In other words, to keep unlimited data you are stuck with a contract in perpetuity.

Crossing fingers. Hope Jobs announces Verizon availability of iPhone.

Sooo… I want to download a lecture from iTunes U. With the 2 gig plan, my cost to taste that lecture is about five bucks.

    Thank you ATT.

    Thank you sooo much!
