Apple looks to have fixed the overheating NVIDIA GPU issue in 17- inch unibody MacBook Pros today with a firmware update.

There is still no fix for the screen issues plaguing 30-inch external monitors using the Mini DisplayPort on all Unibody MacBooks after the problem emerged last year.
