We've gotten a flurry of late reports that there is in fact a removable battery in the 17-inch laptop. We don't know what to make of it yet. IT is probably noise/distraction but maybe Apple has been pulling an Asteroid (seeding incorrect information to employees) or there are two batteries in the laptop. One removable and one that stays inside. More to follow as this develops....
Oh, also the Mac Pro is going to see some small form factor changes (possibly at Macworld). We also expect Core i7 processors and NVIDIA 9800 chipsets.
Then there is iWork.com...more coming as we piece it all together..

It makes sense: "ZPower has
It makes sense: "ZPower has partnered with one of the top global manufacturers of notebook computers to roll out a laptop with a silver-zinc battery option in early 2009. [As you said: Apple???]
The notebook will have the capability to work with either silver-zinc or lithium-ion batteries (i.e. it will be dual chemistry enabled). [two batteries???]
Maybe the MacBook Pro wll have a removable lithium battery and a fixed silver-zinc battery
But WHEN?
Eh?
But WHEN will we see these new Mac Pros? This week? Or later this year?
Hm...
Does anybody else think it's strange that the rumor mill is reporting that nearly EVERYTHING Apple makes is getting updated tomorrow?
Honestly, for as long as there have been RSS readers, I've religiously read my mac and gadget related blogs every morning (noon.. night.. late night), hoping rumors like this would be greeting me, rumors that every single thing they make will be miraculously updated all at once, like a big adult christmas or something. Something to lose sleep over.
I dunno though, it just seems a bit odd that they would suddenly go and change every single thing for the better, all in one swell foop. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to watch a Macworld keynote where I couldn't afford even a fraction of all the new goodies, but it just seems too good to be true, no?
Though, I do think that this would be a really good way to avoid having the stocks tank in light of his Steve-ness's absence/sickness. How crazy will it be if the most memorable keynote in history is presented by Schiller instead of Jobs??
Anyway, I'll believe it when I see it. *crosses fingers*
I bet we end up with: snow leopard, new mini, new imac, new 17" mbp, maybe updated mac pro, even less maybe iphone nano, probably no home media server... maybe a discontinued hdd ipod? They've got to be dropping something negative on us with all these goodies, no??
Well yes it looks like
Well yes it looks like everything is getting updated but it's easy updates. The 17" MBP should have been updated earlier but the battery they wanted to use wasn't ready, so this kind of already happened it's just shipping tomorrow. The iMac is mostly a processor upgrade with the possibility of a 28", the 28" would be the only real new iMac the rest are easy small updates. The Mac Pros are the same as the iMacs, just incremental upgrades. The Mac Mini is the one computer that will be completely redone and probably took the most work. So yes a lot is getting updated but it's not that huge, no new form factors for the iMac or Mac Pro so no real work done
You don't think they might
You don't think they might announce an LCD iMac? That'd be small but ... er.. big at the same time. And from what I just read ^^ up there, it says the Mac Pro will be getting a "Form factor" update. That says case changes to me, which isn't really a tiny piece of news considering how long the basic design has been the same.
The more I think about it, the more I think there's got to be some bad news coming for them to out so many updates simultaneously. My bets are that Steve's taking a back seat sometime this year, or they're phasing out HDD iPods. Maybe I'm wrong... *shrug*
Second time I've done that.
Second time I've done that. I meant to type LED, not LCD.
Anyway, doesn't an LED iMac make sense? At least @ 24"...
iWork.com is true, I think.
iWork.com is true, I think.
now, it redirects to iWork
now, it redirects to iWork '08.
OH GOD IT'S 2009 ALLREADY!!!
It's also Apple's own
It's also Apple's own nameservers. The domain is certainly an inside job.
I'll take it as read the new
I'll take it as read the new Mac Pro will ship with Mini DisplayPort, but is there any word of the larger Apple Cinema Displays being updated to match the 24"?
iLife, iWeb to Cloud?
While I agree that iWork may go online I also have to believe that it is possible to move iWeb to the Cloud as well. Or at least a new way to manage iWeb from more than one computer. I know that this has been asked about quite a bit in forums and it just makes sense that Apple will do something with it. Trying to blog to iWeb via one computer leaves out many people from using the service.
Why can't there just be one
Why can't there just be one removeable zinc-based battery in the 17" Macbook Pro? Why would there have to be two?
As far as I know removable
As far as I know removable silver-zinc batteries don't even exist (yet)
hot swappable
why else would you put in two batteries? Something tell me that Apple has made the the 17in with a hot swappable battery and a fixed battery to give the 1920X1200 crowd a laptop that delivers HD without the poor battery life. This my include the 9600M from NVidia powering the graphics. That kind of performance is nice, but having it so that you don't have to log out and power down to change a battery is real thinking.
Evidence. The latest unibody MBP saw a significant performance slowdown when the battery was removed but the computer was still powered by the cord. What if that second battery could get you that 10 minutes to switch batteries? Would those of us who currently only use one battery per Mac be encouraged to buy a second as a back up?
Predictions for our 17in MBP and maybe why Andy Ihnatko is so happy:
17in MBP
2 batteries, 1 user replaceable, 1 fixed hot swappable
option for 2 hard drive en lieu of 1 hard drive and one optical drive and the MB Airs ability to use an external optical drive via USB
Lighter and thinner as always (save the 15in MBP that got heavier)
1920X1080plus resolution the question is will it be 1200 in height? probably.
Addresses 8GB of RAM correctly unlike its 15in little brother that had the issue of the hardware being able to do this but something being lost in the translation.
That is what will be.
Hopes and wishes:
SIM slot or simple way to get 3G wireless access without the dongles and cards. Built in EVDO basically.
Blu-Ray provided that licensing issue has been corrected
Supports 2 30in displays
Mobile Quad Core processing
All this and more can be yours if the Price is Right.
MacWorld threatened by Death Ray!
You guys be careful!
Death-ray-wielding open source software supporters are expected to crash the MacWorld convention in San Francisco.
Apple Enthusiasts are sporting their armored Powerbooks and reflective laptop bags at the MacWorld expo this week.

Two 17-inch models
This news supports the idea that Apple may release two new models: a 17-inch Macbook Pro, and a 17-inch Macbook Air - as per this: http://www.macpredictions.com/2009/01/new-17-inch-macbook-air-mockup.html
I would rather have a 10-inch
I would rather have a 10-inch Macbook Touch.

surprise
you heard it here seccond.
It's a Steve Jobs sting operation!
Apple is seeding different groups of employees misinformation so they can expose the leaks. Jobs isn't giving the keynote this year because he's going to be too busy tracking and killing the leakers. He went on that crash diet so he'd have an excuse to miss the expo and the employees with the big mouths will be lulled into a false sense of security.
Still all I want is a
Still all I want is a dual-link Mac Mini, but after reading about a 28" iMac...please be MORE THAN 100dpi at least 2560x1600 if true then I may buy one. Preferably 3840x2400. :P
what happend to the hyped up
