Is someone ACTUALLY going to buy this?

    • 9to5Mac Noob says:

      Yes, I am!

    • 9to5Mac Noob says:

      Yes I am!

It bothers me that they keep telling people it’s such a low low price, when in reality $499 for only 16GB is insane. If it was 64GB for that price… then we could talk.

      • 9to5Mac Noob says:

Well the iPad IS cheap, compared to other tablets. No it’s not cheap by most people’s definitions. But, compared to other devices of the like it is. Remember, before it was announced people thought the price was going to be just under $1000 dollars.

        • 9to5Mac reader says:

$1000 was for a much more capable device, not this stunted piece of crap.

          • 9to5Mac Noob says:

Exactly. Even an Archos 9, running full Windows 7, costs only $50 more than a base-model iPad. And that’s with a 60GB hard drive, flash, a USB port, multitasking, etc.

On another note, I think there’s something wrong with the comments… the box is showing up completely grayed out, and the only way I can enter a comment is to change the input format to Full HTML and open the HTML Source Editor.

      why not get one?

  4. HandyGeek says:

I wonder if they’ll at least have demo units in the retail stores.

  5. 9to5Mac Noob says:

This time doesn’t make since.  Apple begins taking order at 7 am est.

  6. 9to5Mac Noob says:

prediction:  Apple will claim they’re sold out within hours, to further build up the hype.  A la the Wii.

    • coasterswim says:

You mean like another product that has been a huge success?  Yes, why on earth would Apple try to follow that example?!

      • 9to5Mac Noob says:

it only works when it’s believable though…if you know it’s a manufactured shortage, then it loses it’s flair imo

  7. 9to5Mac Noob says:

If the iPad is “the best web, video, email, and photo” device… why should anyone buy an iPhone? Or a Mac, for that matter. Apple’s marketing campaigns annoy me beyond belief…

    • Phlegm says:

i have seen some stupid comments on this site but this one is right up there.

first, its not a phone. this is why one would buy an iphone, you know.. to make calls.  not to mention its not as portable.  second, they didnt say it was the best photo editor, or video editor, or ______.  said instances are when a desktop or laptop steps in to do heavy lifting.

it might just be, however, an the best web – email – video – or photo display device yet.  sorry but a full size TV takes it for video device.

    • 9to5Mac Noob says:

I agree! There can only be one “best _____” device, and for email they are claiming it is the iPad. They can’t be serious… this means the iPhone does nothing better than the iPad except make phone calls! They didn’t say “the best experience on a 10″ screen” they said it’s the best experience. Period. It is bad marketing! It makes Apple seem delusional.

  8. 9to5Mac Noob says:

I feel your graphic is a bit misleading. It seems to indicate that the time of the actual launch is 5:30, not the time people will be able to preorder.

  9. Gazoobee says:

Engadget is telling everyone that it’s 8:30 AM PST and that they got it straight from Apple PR.  Just sayin.

  10. 9to5Mac Noob says:

    Uhh, 8:30pst would be 5:30est.  Duh…

  11. 9to5Mac Noob says:

Do you think we will be able to buy more than one during presale???

  12. Mine is already on order.  I got a call from the Business guy at my local Apple Store on Tuesday.  All business customers who opt to do so can pre-order and get first priority.  I got a 64GB and 32GB ready to pick up on April 3rd.  I can’t wait!

  13. 9to5Mac Noob says:

    How does pre-order work ?.

You select the store you are going to pick it up from, that bit I get, but do u pre-pay for it, or do you pay at the time of pick up ?.

  14. 9to5Mac Noob says:

PEOPLE PEOPLE PLEASE DONT PRE-Order !  I will buy it, but if APPLE notices that no one is pre-ordering maybe they will drop the prices…Even though we want it , dont show APPLE we actually do !

    • 9to5Mac Boob says:

OR OR OR IF there are enough pre-orders to show palpable demand, apple will drop the price to encourage more sales. If the demand is more than sufficient to cover their costs, they will be more likely to drop the price.

      • 9to5Mac Noob says:

Or maybe people just shouldn’t buy it so Apple will realize they have made a piece of crap, discontinue it, and concentrate on building some damn MacBook Pros.

      • 9to5Mac Noob says:

Um… who did you learn your economics from? Obama?

    • 9to5Mac Noob says:

No, they will drop the price a few months after launch and then all these day 1 buyers will start whining.  It is quite amusing actually.

  15. 9to5Mac Boob says:

Did anyone notice that Apple replaced the iPad tv advert with an almost identical one, sans the camera hole.

  17. 9to5Mac Noob says:

I really do hate the word “pre-order”…

    A bit of a misnomer, really…

It’s just a freaking ORDER! I’m ORDERING my iPad today. It’ll be arriving later.

  18. 9to5Mac Noob says:

I hate to break it to you, but DST starts on Sunday.  So your article should say PDT, not PST.  It’s usually best just to say Pacific Time, which is what Apple did.  :P

  19. 9to5Mac Noob says:

I’m waiting to see how you guys do with it before I jump on the bandwagon.  I totally hate having purchased an Asus Netbook for $400 plus about half a year ago, which can’t even run Intel’s Moblin even though it has an Intel processor.  Apple tends to think things through and has been executing exceptionally since Jobs came back on board.

  20. If it was easy to download and watch movies, yeah I'd be interested in Netflix for the iPad. The big issue I think is to simply get people to buy the iPad. Once they do, and if the prices are right, the user will probably go onto buy all of these extras, NYT/AP subscriptions, Hulu subscription, Netflix subscription, etc. There has to be something in it for the user, and that something is more times than
