We’ve enabled a few of the Network System Preferences including getting Tethering settings working with some help from @sonny788
Interestingly, you can see below that tethering by Bluetooth or USB is one of the options. There is absolutely no chance AT&T allows this to stay the same way for launch, right?

I find more interesting that there is a “File Sharing” option.
That means that iPad will have a Finder so you can save files in it?
Nope, no Finder for iPhone OS. Each application will present only those files it can work with on launch i.e. iWork for iPad. But all those files will be shared to computer.
You get to browse and manage iPad files and documents which will mount on the computer. No need for iTunes.
I wanna know, when will Steve go on stage again and go over iphone 4 os and mention iPad preorder date and release date. If iPhone will get 3.2 first, what are the new features on the phone. Come on Apple, when are y’all going to have another event. I assume there will be an event before the release date, right?
Nope. Not at all. iOS 4.0 is on hold, expect mid-May announcement, July release alongside iPhone HD.
How in the heck are you guys coming up with these settings? I’ve got the latest SDK. What do I need to do to enable them?
Re AT&T comment: Are you guys so US-centric that you’d believe that AT&T would eliminate tethering so that those in the rest of the world (I am in Spain) will be denied a feature (tethering) that we’ve enjoyed since the iPhone was released? This is a global product, with global operators, operators who invest in their networks in ahead of demand!
Tethering here in Spain is good, its relatively fast, its easy… it just works. No data limits, no network throttling,no problem!
Any chance tethering between iPad and iPhone will be possible? I’m not paying another subscription…
It’s already possible, just not without “effort”, aka jailbreak.
“With effort” only if you live in the USA. Otherwise it should be dead simple. Enable tethering on phone. Make sure you pick “turn on bluetooth”. And, make sure the iPad is paired via blue tooth with your iPhone.
That’s the beauty of living in the free world! It just works!
Sorry, iPhone OS and iPad OS don’t support BlueTooth networking except to act as a SOURCE for internet connectivity. They are unable to connect to the internet via a BlueTooth connection. So unless Apple adds this feature, you will NOT be able to use the iPhone as an internet access point for the iPad via tethering. The iPad on the other hand should be able to tether with Macs and PCs just like the iPhone can.
I dearly hope Apple adds this feature, since I live in Canada and have a Rogers iPhone, so it would be absolutely a shame if I couldn’t use my 6GB plan’s included tethering for connectivity anywhere with a WiFi iPad.
yodax17, you have no idea what your talking about. iPhone OS 4 will most likely not see the light of day until the new iPhone is revealed, about June based off all previous models with sales around the following month. If you bothered to look “The iPad is set to go on sale on or around March 26th at 6:00pm.” and iPhone OS 3.2 is Strictly iPad only and would not be ported down for the iPhone. Sorry if i came off as rude, but please look before posting because all of your questions have already been posted on this site.
who the fuck are you to tell people what to do on this site ?
Amen.
This feature is what I want.
iPhone to Mac Transfer
Yeah! That’s right! Exactly like Apple didn’t reveal OS 2.0 until they announced the 3G, or 3.0 until they announced the 3GS. Oh wait…
Damn… this is one feature I wanted. I am beginning to want one..
Tethering with an iPad??? What for? You don’t wanna tell me you hold the iPad as biggest modem ever, next to a MacBook to surf the Web, right? What’s the point? With an iPhone in my pocket ok, but an iPad, come on! This is ridiculous.
Of course this tethering option is meant THE OTHER WAY! You have an iPhone or a mobile phone with a 3G connection, and the iPad can go online using the phone’s 3G connection.
Uh, No, sorry. Not at all. This is leftover from the iPhone and will not be a feature of any US iPad.
But, if you are comfortable with jailbreaking, there is a solution that turns your iPhone into a WiFi hotspot, exactly what you need to share data with any nearby device, ie: iPad.
(this should be a standard feature of every iPhone, but it’s not, yet)
As another says , will be possible tethering between ipad and iphone , in oprder to buy the wifi model ???
Why is your iPad simulator upside down?
The big question is, can I setup a Bluetooth network connection with it to use my iphone for tethering? I don’t want to get another monthly bill. Also, the iPad will be at home, where it can use my Wifi, or on the road with me and my iPhone.
The answer is no. Both the iPhone/iPod touch/iPhone use the same bluetooth hardware and software features. They cannot receive bluetooth data connections, only broadcast.
So no, there is no legitimate way to accomplish this. In the real world however:
-jailbreak iPhone.
-install MyFi
-enjoy your iPhone’s data on your iPad, just as you legally should be enabled to.
Upto my knowledge yes you can setup your bluetooth net connection. But I want to know that what is the maximum memory storage available in it?? Because I need good sharing as well as storage capacity.
Häää? Are you kidding? What is wrong with some guys here……… just one simple question:
Today: I can use my iPhone (no Jailbreak) in Switzerland over blutooth to go into the internet while i am siting in the park or train where no wi-fi is available (meaning use of 3G)
IPAD: Can I use my iPhone (without Jailbreak) to go into the internet over blutooth with the iPad (without Jailbreak, Wi-Fi Version only)?
All i want from Apple, that I can use my 3G connection for the ipad the same way i use it for my laptop. If that wouldnt be possible, that would just be a joke!
* update: of course i mean “go into the internet with my laptop” with the help of the iphone
What does it mean by Visual Voicemail on that screenshot?
What’s the Visual Voicemail settings for?
Anyone else notice a circle on the top of the picture that surely looks like a front facing camera?
You mean the Home button?
Do you see a front facing camera? I do
Dude, it’s the home button. The iPad is rotated upside down.
Its deffo not a front facing camera mate.
In the real world however:
Actually in the real world – as opposed to the tiny part of it that constitutes the US – we can simply turn on tethering with the preferences already in our perfectly ordinary iPhones. As has been pointed out numerous times.
Complain to ATT, not Apple.
If AT&T doesn’t allow tethering for iPhone by April 3rd that will be the last straw for me and I WILL jailbreak my iPhone 3Gs in order to tether it to my 16GB iPad (wifi only). There’s no question about it. Warranties, terms of service, etc be damned! Frankly, I’d rather pay another carrier like Sprint $60/mo for a cheap bluetooth/wifi device to tether to the iPad for data service than pay AT&T OR Apple another cent to do something we should have been able to do for almost three years now AND can do on almost any other device/service or in another country! Screw them both if they think all people are gonna put up with this BS after the iPad is launched and in stores.
Ain’t no way I’m paying another cent to ATT for separate service for iPad or Apple the extra $130 to get a 3G iPad when I already have owned three iPhones personally and spend almost $700/mo for ATT service for myself and a few employees…most of which use hardly any 3G data on their iPhones.
APPLE – WHY WHY WHY are you STILL allowing these shenanigans by AT&T? There must be a reason…I hope it’s one that isn’t totally about greed; I hope it’s at least partially in the interest of YOUR loyal customers who only put up with AT&T because YOU are forcing us to.
Isn’t three years long enough???
I was one of the lucky few to get my hands on an iPad last week and I must say, so far so good. It’s an incredible piece of technology and I think it will change the way we read, watch movies, listen to music and more. I just want to find more apps and sites related to iPad, which seem to be hard to trace online. I can’t believe that the ipad reviews index http://www.dozenipad.com ranked Touchgrind as a Top iPad game site. I think Touchgrind is a stupid idea – who wants to fingerboard when you can skateboard for real? The best thing about iPad is going to be video and HTML5. Most of the video sites such as youtube and vimeo can be accessed by the iPad and I think it’ll improve the ultimate viewing experience.
Sweet i need to get one of these!
What a beauty! How did them manage to make it so slim? It’s a miracle of engineering…
