The Examiner has a pretty interesting iPad story for us today.  According to their sources, the iPad will reach Apple Stores for employee training on March 10th.  On March 15th, the television commercials (remember the one filmed in a diner in California?) will air.  Then on March 26th, iPad sales will open to the public of the Wifi version.  3G versions will follow in late April or May.

That all seems to mesh with us and we’ve heard repeatedly that the release date would be March 26th, barring any unforeseen delays.  They conclude with this little tidbit: People who camp out for the iPad lauch will receive a “special gift.”

FYI, former Apple employee here, we didnt get the iPhones a second earlier then the launch date. Our training was done strictly on the computer. I doubt they send them the iPads early.

    • 9to5Mac Noob says:

I can back him up on that. I remember the virtual iPhone we used to train for possible sales scenarios.

    Must have special gift! :)

    FYI, CURRENT Apple employee here:

At the risk of losing employment – I can confirm this rumor.

It seems odd that pre orders are not being taken yet this close to launch. Leads me to believe that rumors of a limited supply at release may have legs.

I’ll order my iPad once it supports Adobe Flash = never :( (

    • 9to5Mac Noob says:

Why should we care what you do !

Give it up, flash is dead dead dead, why drag it out! Why is Adobe’s proprietary lock down product worth defending. It is an old bolt-on to the browser bolt-on. They never made a decent effort to maintain it properly across platforms. Why would any other hardware or software company want to be held ransom to Adobe’s monopoly control over their runtime environment. As new variants of hardware and software platforms enter the market place Adobe will hold the fate of these companies hostage. Even if Adobe was making a completely honest effort, their track record suggest they would simply not be able to keep up with their cross platform support in a timely manner. This would slow down innovation and competition, no one benefits from that. I have been slightly disappointed at times with the lock down pivot point on some Apple products, but Adobe, now that is true abuse of customers at every level. I, like others, have been burned by Adobe one to many times. I will never do business with them again. They are very greedy and have absolutely no intention of including their customers or partners in their value equation.

Wow Online Games – can you feel the hate ? LOL. These guys really want to impose their own will on you and feel justified in their clouded devotion. I’m the same way – tho. I love what I love. I think I will love the iPad as much as I do my iPhone – however .. I’m with you. I am disappointed in the lack of support for customer demanded flash on the iPhone and now iPad.
In the world of retail – customers rule. And these devotees cant change the overwhelming desire for flash with all the negaivity in the world. I hope for something better than flash ( html5 perhaps when more widely supported ) but adoption is everthing. The only options now are flash and silverlight – and Apple isn’t going anywhere near either … and that’s sad. I’m feel your pain Online Games – but I’m holding out only for the 64G 3G/Wifi version coming out next month. Here Apple take my $$$$, please.

Yea, I’ll miss that punch-a-monkey banner ad. Boo hoo, no Flash, I’m crying all the way to the Apple Store. Most Flash apps would not work well on a Touch-based system. You could punch the monkey, but you’d have no way to move the boxing glove back and forth because Touch systems only have click (touch) events, they do not have Mouse-Over events.

  8. 9to5Mac Noob says:

    @Online Games…..

Get over it, dude. You sound like people who were desperately clinging to their floppy drives a few years back.

    • SKK says:

What????? NO FLOPPY DRIVE!!!!! That cinches it for me. Unless of course they make a green-screen alphanumeric version only. I want to play the original space invaders.

Oh…and the punch card reader….has anyone confirmed they’re going to slip that in too!

  9. 9to5Mac Noob says:

Come hell or high water I will be there on Friday, camping if I must.

  10. 9to5Mac Noob says:

That special gift will be the shameful title of “Laughing stock of the entire computer world”!

It upsets me that the 3G versions will be out a month later…..

this might be my chance to finally get a piece of hardware before my brother, who has to leave the country on the 23rd.

Concerning the lines (I’ll probably be in one) he rightly points out “I kind of doubt there will be the same level of demand for the iPad as for the iPhone. Pretty much everyone who bought an iPhone was already committed to owning some kind of iPhone–in fact most owned one. With the iPad, not everyone is already committed to the concept and few own a tablet computer. Yes, us iFanatics will be in a frenzy when they first come out especially if they are in constrained supply (as Apple hopes will be the case).”

smart guy. too bad none of it rubbed off on me. but mom always liked me best.

  13. Eldariann says:

Unless they have a launch in Canada the same day too (as first announced by Steve Jobs in the presentation)… I will have to pray and hope there will still be a 16GB version available at the Apple Store in NYC on the 27th when I get there.

  14. friedman says:

The Oscar’s are on Sunday. The first iPhone ad ran during the Oscars. To think the ad will air on Sunday is not out of the question. It’s not like they don’t have enough money to buy the ad time.

    It could happen.

  15. Sheeeeeiit says:

Sheeeeeiit! stop with the rumors already.
seriously. this seems sooooo outta touch with anything apple does. very unlikely to happen. seeing as most apple employees didnt get to see the iPhone until about at most 1 HOUR before launch.
plus why would they need to be trained? its the same OS as ipod touch and iphone. silly silly rumors

  16. iPad has been the talk of the town for a while now and with the release dates set on 26th of this month there would be lurking around the stores to pre-order it. However, it remains a thing to be seen as how good does iPad rate on people’s expectation. As far as I am concerned, I would be looking forward to have this after a while, so that I could get a clear picture about iPad in mind.

  17. Randolph Kirkpatrick says:

I’m convinced that commercial shoot at “Jax on the Tracks” is a complete hoax, and a brilliant one by the diner’s owner. He probably closed the place down for a day, hired a wedding-video crew to pretend to shoot, and told them to put on some black turtlenecks.

Then he claims in the small town paper that it was an Apple commercial, which Apple probably wouldn’t bother confirming or denying. Huge amounts of PR.

    It’s brilliant really.

  18. a Mole within says:

I just want to hear that Apple Employees will be getting one at no cost the day of the launch. Would certainly provide more exposure, and this is what they did with the iPhone.

  19. NookSurfer says:

That’s a first, when did they ever care if people camped out? Are they worried that the demand won’t be high and need another tactic to draw buyers?

    • Former Apple Employee says:

Actually, I can see Apple caring deeply that the customers that are early adopters are rewarded in some way, even if it turns out to be something small and silly. It’s better than nothing, and its free just for being a devoted Apple fan. When I worked for Apple it was always about the customer. Some places, granted, say “It’s all about the customer.”, but then go in the back and say “What a load of crap!”. Apple is definitely not that way.
