Besides the iPhone being announced/released in 2007, we can get behind this image from Begeek (via Gizmodo).  Wonder where they found the bottom photo?

I think Apple should build a small smart electric car, but in the shape of a Mercedes Benz, for the rest of us to enjoy! ;)

iRobot to replace Apple’s child workers and those persons subject to toxic chemical exposures. I’m surprised that Al Gore hasn’t developed a film decrying abuse, neglect, and exploitation of the Chinese and the need to supplant Apple’s Chinese serfs with automatons. I reckon Al Gore is only interested in fictional themes.

      Internal Memo
      To: Steve jobs
      From: Al Gore

There are less than 20,000 polar bears compared to more than one billion Chinese.
Chinese are expendable, cute and cuddly anthropomorphized polar bears are not.

    • 9to5Mac Noob says:

      Shut up.

      • 9to5Mac Noob says:

I know, I know, as long as you can buy Apple products it is immaterial how many children in China are working in factories and how many persons are exposed to toxins, but a simple photoshopped image of a polar bear is enough to cause you to have a fit.

Al Gore refuses to admit that AGW is a sham, he confesses that AGW was designed for your benefit irrespective of the paucity of independently verifiable data and the deliberate fabrication of data. To Al Gore the means do justify the ends. If human reliance on fossil fuels is a fatal addiction, maybe he can scare people into economic martyrdom by promoting a myth of inevitable doom. He had to invent a false calamity, fabricate a fictional climatic disaster of epic proportions because he believes that fear is a more effective human motivator than reason and common sense. Of course, if Al Gore can profit financially from his lies and fear mongering so much the better for Al Gore. It’s all for a good cause, right, Al?

        • 9to5Mac Noob says:

sure… just like the for profit thing in the middle east worked out for Cheney / Haliburton / Blackwater.

          • 9to5Mac Noob says:

Thank you for agreeing that Cheney and Al Gore used specious data. unrestrained speculation, and unsubstantiated assumptions to justify their behaviors. So, when Steve Jobs invite Cheney to the board?

    • 9to5Mac Noob says:

A few years ago I visited Quanta in Shanghai where about one third of the world’s laptops are made (including Apple, Acer, Sony, etc…) It is a very very well run operation. The employees I talked to mostly viewed it as a temporary job, but they liked it there and they clearly were not exposed to poor working conditions. That includes the line workers. I know you’re just joking around, but I just wanted to make sure that was clear. People can strum up some really screwed up conclusions when they try apply a western mindset to what goes on in Asia.

There are a lot of places where working conditions are not as good as Quanta. Many times in southeast Asia, so-called human rights groups will go and shut down operations because they themselves wouldn’t be willing to work in those environments, even though that job may have been the best thing to happen to the workers there. Many times it just eliminates jobs for the poor and causes them to resort to other sources of income such as theft or prostitution.

      • 9to5Mac Noob says:

Two words for you: Potemkin village.

No doubt your visit was planned in advance, oh, gullible one.

        • 9to5Mac Noob says:

My visit actually wasn’t planned in advance. I met Quanta’s CEO’s brother and got connected to go visit the factory without advanced warning.

Did you have a different experience there, or are you just speculating?

          • 9to5Mac Noob says:

Riiight. You just showed up at the font door without notice. No one knew you were arriving. It was a surprise inspection. I can just imagine the amazement as you strolled in completely unannounced.

You are a fool to think that anyone would accept your story as the gospel truth. No one, I mean no one, travels internationally without planning, preparation, and advanced notice. You are a liar.

      • 9to5Mac Noob says:

Oh, I get it! The actual abuse, neglect, and exploitation inflicted upon workers by the Chinese corporate tyrants is better than the possible abuse, neglect, and exploitation workers would inflict upon themselves. In other words, injustices that are routinely imposed upon Chinese workers is justified for the self degradation that they might or might not choose as individuals had they not been hired.

        • 9to5Mac Noob says:

That’s not my argument at all. I’m not justifying poor working conditions. My claim is that westerners often perceive conditions to be poor just because they themselves wouldn’t be willing to work there. I admit that I wouldn’t want the Quanta assembly line job, but it’s not like they are abused or neglected either. Employees don’t go to work at these places because they are forced to, they do it because it is an opportunity for them to have a better life for them and their families.

Of course there are injustices in the world, and I’m not trying to defend those. However, it’s not fair to assume that anything made in China was the result of some sort of injustice.

          • Lazysod says:

Who cares about the Chinese and there working conditions. The less I hear about it the better. Get over yourselves. Boycott all electronics, clothing and anything else that is made there or shut the fuck up about it. Get over yourselves. Damn hippies!

          • 9to5Mac Noob says:

So according to your thinking, it is OK if a Chinese autocrat abuses a Chinese worker because they are both Chinese and conforming to “Eastern” culture. Also it would be inappropriate to impose our “Western” values of human dignity and respect for human rights.

It is fair to assume that some products were made by mistreated workers as there is empirical evidence to prove it. This would support that some products imported were made by these workers. This does not mean that all products are made by ill-treated workers.

            Are you well?

            • 9to5Mac Noob says:

I meant “everything made in China” not “anything made in China.”

I think it’s funny that one guy that replied apparently thought I was complaining about abuse, and it seems that you thought I was justifying it. I didn’t say abuse was okay, I said that Quanta treats its employees fairly. I’ve seen places in China where that was not the case. The point is that there are two sides to the coin, and I brought it up because Apple was unfairly accused by someone that has only heard about one side of the coin.

Typical internet forum responses – twist and oversimplify someone’s argument and then insult them for it.

Well, I won’t insult you. I agree all of your points. Some just assume everything in Asia came from an abusive tyrant. One guy thought that it is so bad that Quanta would put on a show just to give a tour to an inconsequential group of visitors instead of just denying the tour. That seems racist and simplistic to make that sort of speculation. Thank you for making good points instead of sweeping generalizations.

              • 9to5Mac Noob says:

Twist your argument? You either haven’t made a cogent point or insist on offering several ambiguous ones. Add to this your poor word choices which garble your attempts of developing an argument. These are your problems, not mine.

  23. 9to5Mac Noob says:

Seriously though, what’s next? Apple seem to like entering new markets. What market could they get into next? Something that exists at the moment but nobody has done it quite right. The obvious one is Apple TV and where that might go. Apple make hardware, software and operate a store delivering content, so TV seems a safe bet. Watching ‘Up’ in 3D, made by Steve Job’s employer Pixar, made me ponder whether 3D might be the next big thing. I dunno. Where will Apple move next?

I must say that he i mat would be a great game for kids!ha!

    • mime454 says:

iMat would be awesome for a tiled floor provided it could handle weight. Apple could start a revolution in foot based computing. And there would be lots of iTreadmill apps. I would actually buy an iMat provided it were priced right.
