I am glad they banned him.
i second that motion
Why ? There are millions of jail-breakers out there ! And I agree they are babies ! What are they going to do Ban anyone that has a hackers name….. so they can go and change it ! Apple really makes some dumbass moves sometimes !
Dissent will not be tolerated. Conformity is the rule. Submission and total obedience is expected.
Wow, Apple was right, It’s not like 1984, it’s worse than 1984.
fuck apple jailbreak the hell out of your device steve jobs could suck my dick…..
so your an apple fanboy i bet..
apple fan boy…
They are babies for not wanting people to hack their products?
Microsoft’s decision to ban Xbox 360 modders and now Apple’s move to ban hackers from the App Store are perfectly natural responses. The only thing is that if Apple decides to go even further and ban any person with a modified firmware, it will result in an increase of pirated apps and a decrease in sales.
I agree, they will lose a lot of profit over time.
thats totally different, modding an xbox can conflict with other paying subscribers experience with what they purchased, they buy a game to have fun and play then someone with a mod comes it and ruins it.
jailbreaking, what does that do to harm other iphone ipod users?
we just open it up so apple wont have control over what we download, i bought the phone I should get to decide what to do with it not apple. dont be crucifying us for something that YOU dont like. you dont like it then dont do it. its like going to a shop and buying a stanley hammer, then being told you can only hammer in stanley approved nails on a stanley approved board. would you still buy the hammer?
This is definitely not related to a jailbreak, but with password recovery.
In the recent days “somebody” has massively tried to recover passwords from all sorts of Apple IDs by requesting a new password from MobileMe, iTunes Store, GSX and other Apple Single-Sing-On enabled Websites.
After you have received several of these “klick the following link foo bar to reset your password” you actually must change your password before you can use your account again. People who were affected by this have also received several emails informing them about the fact, that somebody has tried to reset their password, and that nobody was granted access.
If you are the legitimate owner of that Apple ID, just go to iTunes or MobileMe and send yourself an “iForgot” Mail, change your password and a minute later you can login again.
Best regards

that’s very interesting. is there any more evidence, as that sounds like a warning to readers is required.
Same thing happened to me. My account was disabled for security reasons. When I got my password and the rest fixed, my browser opened immediately to the Apple Store Japan. Japan? WTF?
So it’s quite possible that these guys aren’t being targeted for banning because of jailbreaking. Although that would ruin the whole “I’m being persecuted!” meme, wouldn’t it?
Sounds like someone just got hold of their Apple ID and decided to try to hack it.
At least I hope that’s what happened…
Steve Jobs doesn’t really care about company profit (see: chorus of complainers about hoe AAPL handles its cash–no stock buy-back, no divident)–he loves the perfection and beauty of his creations. Jailbreaking is not it…
This is 100% true. Here is my story from last week…
I had jailbroken my 3Gs 3.1.2 iPhone and was on a long road trip last week for business. I was tethering my MacBook.
Although tethering had been working 100% for months, suddenly issues started.
First thing I noticed is that it kept popping up with ‘no service’ and dropping the connection after 5 minutes of tethering. My partners non-jailborken iPhone was fine with 5 bars. Then when I tried to access the applestore it have me the “ID disabled for security reasons”
I rebooted the iPhone and then it kept freezing everytime I tethered. I had never had that before.
I switched off tethering for a while and still had issues, so went back to it.
Then the iPhone froze completely. Could not reboot, just the apple logo.
I called AT&T / Apple support from the road on another phone (Obviously not mentioning the jailbreak). I was told by the rep that it sounds like I was a jailbreaker trying to tether and AT&T had bricked my phone. My only solution was to find an internet connection and restore my phone to the new 3.1.3.
I was furious but he said that if I read my contract that I had totally voided any warranty. He could not confirm it on the phone but said that AT&T had the ability to tell from the traffic that I was using tethering and the phone was jailborken. He also confirmed that they had the ability to brick the phone remotely if it violated the terms of service. He said the symtons sound like this is what was done to me.
When I finally did restore it to the unjailbreakable 3.1.3 (no choice). I tried to connect to the apple store and got the same “User Disabled” message. I called them again and they reset it for me. Everything working again but cannot jailbreak or tether any more.
Seams that apple / AT&T is finally getting serious about jailbreakers.
Real pity because I really don’t give a damn about anything else but absolutly must have tethering. I will be trading in my iPhone for something that can tether (and making decent calls is a bonus). I will also be selling my Apple shares, because if they keep up this BS attitude then I fear lots of others will be doing the same.
just plain STUPID, glad your selling your stock you really don’t deserve it
1) You are either making shit up
2) The customer service rep had no idea what he/she was talking about
3) If you knew more about jailbreaking, you knew that you didn’t “have to” update to the 3.1.3 to restore your phone.
What exactly would I be making up ?
Granted the customer service rep did not say the actual word ‘bricked’ but said they can stop it. If you google about my experience over the last week or two, you will see that many others have had very similar problems.
Regarding jailbreaking. Apple stopped signing the 3.1.2 IPSW so you cannot downgrade or install an old version. Recently there are some hacks released if you have not upgraded already and if you do not use a 3GS (which I do). Yes, I had no choice to upgrade if I wanted to use my phone because it was completely bricked and would not turn on. Of course I tried to restore to 3.1.2 first but it no longer is authorized.
I don’t have a problem with Apple or AT&T not supporting my equipment for violating their TOS (it’s a risk I took because Apple advertised the iPhone as having tethering ability but has never provided it and I have paid for and own the equipment and should be able to do as I please with it) but intentionally damaging my equipment for doing so is a very different thing. If it comes to light (as I expect), that they are engaging in this, it will be very damaging to the stock and their image. Seams very ‘Big Brother’ of them, which is exactly what they were always against (1984 anyone ?)
You Sir, are an idiot. There are not hundreds of people having that problem – I don’t! If you had a clue about jailbreaking you would know that you can STILL activate 3.1.2 on a 3GS without any problems. In fact I’m tethering right now as I type this.
Have a nice day, try spouting your lies somewhere else.
Really? You’ve figured out a way to install an old firmware on a 3GS without a fake authentication server? Please do share! I’ve been looking for a way to do that for awhile.
That’s the price you pay. Why should Apple offer any services to people who abuse the intent of their products. You have the freedom to jailbreak your iPhone but don’t expect Apple to support you.
That’s fine, but don’t expect them to stop you either!
Yes, be even more of a dumba** and sell your stock because you do not like their “BS attitude” to your violation of the TOS! I’m so intrigued by your keen sense of business; by chance do you have any other wonderful stock tips?
@Sherif Hashim:
Mahatma Gandhi said once:
First they ignore you
then they lough at you
then they fight you
then you win
If they are going to block people for tethering they should offer it like they said they would!! The phone is capable, AT&T just sucks. Provide the services promised and it would prevent at least some of the jailbreaking. I paid for my device now let me use it how I want. If you want to cancel my service that’s fine but don’t brick it…I’ll go to a real service provider.
I think Apple should go further: report these guys to the FBI.
Then these guys will have some laughs – perhaps behind a federal prison.

Then these guys can laugh all they want – behind a federal prison cell.
I’m pretty sure you still need to break a LAW to go to jail.
The only reason to jailbreak is to pirate software. Given the prices most devs sell there stuff for this is egregious behavior. Don’t know if a lot of this story is true or not but I say death to breakers.
you ignorant slut!
I jailbreak to remove the carrier lock to AT&T! I don’t pirate apps and your assertion that jailbreakers are thieves is offensive!
Learn a little more… talk a little less
I’m offended by that ‘ignorant slut’ too.
The only app I have ever pirated was NetShare and that was because it was no longer available on the App Store because Apple removed it. I would have gladly paid the developers for it. When other tethering apps came out in Cydia, I bought those.
The iPhone has the potential to do a lot more than just the default apps + the App Store apps. The functionality that some of the jailbreak apps introduce is amazing and really improves the device.
SBSettings is the most useful thing ever. I get so frustrated when I don’t have it.
Five Icon Dock lets you put five icons in your dock. I’ve got Phone, Mail, Safari, iPod, Settings. Perfect.
Notifier puts notifications next to the battery icon at the top-right corner when you have missed calls, new SMS, mail, IM’s and new calendar events. The iPhone should have this by default but Apple haven’t done it yet.
If Apple implemented something like SBSettings and Notifier I would not jailbreak my iPhone. Until then, I’ll take the extra functionality, thanks.
Your an artard….
Most of us jailbreak & unlock to remove the carrier lock so we can move companies and sim cards when necessary.
Do try not to make gross generalizations about people’s actions when you clearly haven’t a clue.
“Most of us…”
LOL @ your gross generalization. My carrier supports official unlocking so I’ve got absolutely no need for any of the carrier unlocks that jailbreak brings.
I jailbreak for SBSettings, StatusNotifier, themes and lock screen goodness.
Wow – hard to believe the disinformation that’s out there. It is only quite recently that pirated apps have become an issue. Jailbreaking has been around for far longer and offers many, many benefits. My phone is jailbroken and yet I don’t use a single pirated app. Rather, I enjoy the following benefits instead:
1. Ability to background an app. I can, for example, background a GPS navigation app so that it doesn’t close when there’s an incoming call. Similarly with Skype, so that a VOIP call doesn’t get terminated due to an incoming GSM call.
2. The use of utilities such as Overboard that let me better manage many pages of legit apps. When I press the Home button from Springboard, for instance, my icon pages “zoom back” so that I see all of them at once and can tap to instantly switch to a given page without swiping through them frantically.
3. Access to additional customizations to programs such as Action Menu, which augments the clipboard functionality of the phone. In addition to the usual cut-and-paste functions, I have access to a “favorites” list so that I can easily paste common information such as my email address into documents without having to copy them from another document first.
4. Location tracking using iLocalis, which lets me not only find my phone if it’s stolen or lost but to also remote backup and wipe the phone, display a message on its screen or to record an audio snippet and send it to me to help me identify what is going on around it.
In a nutshell, jailbreaking provides the ability to customize and add apps that dig deeper into the OS than normally allowed by the App Store process. Without this, many iPhone users would immediately jump ship for Android, which already allows many of these things. In a sense, it provides the best of both worlds: a controlled environment for those who prefer simplicity and reliability and the ability to customize further for those with the initiative and slight technical skill required to do so.
@David gives an excellent response to the idiots who say that “jailbreaking is only for pirating.”
I doubt the veracity of the whole “AT&T remotely bricked my phone” tale above, but if you’re going to tether, for Pete’s sake, get a VPN account somewhere, then tell your Mac or iPhone to route all traffic via the VPN. AT&T will see traffic, but it will be encrypted traffic, and no way for them to see what you’re doing and decide that based on your kind of traffic that it’s tethered. For all they’ll know it’s streaming youtube or Pandora all day long. (At least that’s my understanding of how VPN works.)
Its because he updated to 3.1.3. The crack isn’t out for that yet. He should read the blogs before updating your iphone. Everyone knows this. Only time before 3.1.3 is released.
