This little report has got us pondering this morning, as it indicates 3G carriers may well offer iPads at generous subsidies.

  1. 9to5Mac Boob says:

This would corroborate what Steve Jobs said at the keynote. After introducing the price, Jobs stated that there would be even better deals with international carriers.

    • pmz says:

      A Great poll would be:

Would You Buy an AT&T Subsidized iPad if the pricing were:

      - 2 year Contract
      - $30/mon Unlimited data-only

Up front iPad cost: $199 for 16gb/3G

  2. 9to5Mac Noob says:

No thanks ! I already got an iPhone unlocked and tethered ready ! will use it to tether wifi to my iPad !

    • 9to5Mac Noob says:

      You goose.
You can’t tether your iPhone to your iPad.

They run the same OS .. try to tether an iPhone to your iPod Touch – Go on try.

My God some people are stupid.

    • pmz says:

LOL good luck with that considering it isn’t possible.

  3. 9to5Mac Austrian Connection says:

I am from Austria, and it’s true, Hutchinson Austria’s subsidy for the iPad will be €333 …

… but this subsidy is valid for all kinds of netbooks/notebooks anyway (when you make a 29 Euro per month data contract)

    Greetings from Salzburg!

  4. Dennis says:

Here is why I think the IPad will be bigger than IPod and IPhone:

    1) Grade school though college students can use it for textbooks. 2,295,000,000
    2) Unlike present eBook readers the IPad is in color and will have enriched content (videos)
    3) Great game player
    4) Magazines and newspapers will appear before the newsstands
    5) Price – It will eventually decrease even further from $499
    6) Already purchased ITunes and Apps aquired on the IPod and IPhone will play on IPad
    7) Greater battery life than Netbooks
    8) Lowest price Apple “computer” to date
    9) great internet experience
    10) future subscription based television
    11) future movie
    12) and the biggest reason- All-in- one device

Problems will be that the IPad will cannibalize the ITouch and possibly Mac sales.

    • 9to5Mac Noob says:

Not so sure about Mac sales, since you would need a Mac (or PC) to put content onto the device. I can imagine that the iPad would eventually hurt iPod touch sales, though not by much.

In fact, I’m starting to wonder if the iPod touch wasn’t just a stop-gap (though a very successful one) product release until the iPad was ready, to satisfy the “I want an iPhone without the phone part” crowd. Could it be possible that the iPad is the REAL iPod touch? ;-)

      • Dennis says:

iPod Touch sales are taking off so I believe you are right.

As for Mac Sales, Apple is working on a cloud-based personal ITunes and streaming content so you might not need a Mac (or PC) to add content to the IPad in the future. Therefore iPad may cannibilize Mac sales for those that need a simple computer.

  5. Dennis says:

    333 Euros = US $456

  6. Bubbles says:

I’ll probably only ever use this thing at home so the wi-fi option is ‘good enough’ for me, but the option to have 3g at any notice without a contract will steer me toward the 3g version.

If I can only get 3g by signing up to a contract, then I’ll leave it.

Just need some more details on the UK pricing and carrier info….
