I took a quick video with the iPad today. I know the iPad is getting a little bad press from some sites. But let’s just remember this is a $499 netbook replacement that also does a lot of really cool things that nothing currently in the market can do. More to come…

only one word: MULTI-TASKING
One word jailbreak 2 multitask
This thing is toit! For people complaining about the lack of camera, as if you really want to be taking a picture with something this big. Also, iChat would be pretty awkward holding it out two feet from your face, would it not? Apple knows what they are doing, just because this specific product doesn’t fit into your unrealistic paradigm doesn’t mean other people won’t buy it. People were skeptical about the iPod touch and millions of people went out to buy those things. Once textbooks and magazine apps start pouring onto this little beyach I think all you cynics might have a change of heart.
I lament the missing camera, but your points are well made, and I had thought about some of those things, too. How would you do video iChat with this thing in your lap? Apple sure as heck isn’t gonna put in one of those kludgy pivoting webcams found on some laptops. Maybe that’s why they chucked that idea, I dunno.
I think people were expecting this product to do a little too much, people are mad that there’s no new way to interact with this thing, i thinks it’s good that i’ll know how to use it right away. Give it 60 days and people will realize that it’s actually going to be a great bridge product
Why didn’t you show the book feature…
The big thing the naysayers seem to be forgetting or flat-out ignoring is the App Store. Hello, “There’s an App for that,” whatever it is they want to do with it.
The Apple guy seem to keep taking it away from you. He wants on also
Keep an eye out for soon-to-be announced accessories — think blue tooth web cam…
I see no benefit to getting this device. Between an iPhone and a 13″ macbook pro, why on earth would I want an over sized iPod touch?
It is NOT a netbook replacement. A netbook is a computer. This is not a computer it’s a limited media device aka iPod Touch.
The ONE main thing about this is a larger web browser than the iPhone, but with lack of Flash it doesn’t fill that void, I still have to go to the MBP.
And no, I don’t think it would be awkward to video conference with this. I think it would be a killer app.
I think a tablet that is a computer, not an iPod is a better product.
It’s really cool, and the entry price point is low, but it’s not the right feature set.
It will sell millions, but I don’t now why.
Could you find out if the BT-1 webcam works with the iPad? If so, camera problem solved.
I don’t need it. It can’t replace my Macbook, can’t replace my phone. I don’t want to carry 3 devices around. I will have to pass.
The worst part is that I’m not even looking forward for the next iPhone anymore, because if the tablet doesn’t have multitasking or Flash (I don’t care Flash sucks, I want to have the option to use it if I need or want to), the next iPhone probably won’t either. And that sucks.
I think we all have to realize that while the iPhone was a huge advancement when it was released, I won’t have an advantage over other products forever. In fact, it is quickly getting behind other phones that are shipping with ever better GUIs and more features.
The iPad has the same limitations of the iPhone, which is even more depressing since it is not just a phone, it’s more like a computer.
Apple, I love you, please figure this out.
I have mixed emotions. I am a Windows person, but own, and toy with an IPOD 3G 32 GB touch, which I think is a nice device. If you do some research, and apply the right apps, it can be a useful business and professional tool for you. Now, regarding the new Apple iPad, I must agree with some of the negative aspects, which have been posted. This device, as you said, is a “convergence” device, and will not replace a full laptop, or even a nice netbook. However, the device showed really good response on the TV and internet videos, that I saw today. The iBook, eBooks, and iWorks apps will be very good, in addition to the multiple of apps available. Too bad,no USB or can’t sync MS word, PDF, or other business files. But, there is Documents-to-go App, which costs $10, and enables you to set up a file system on the iPad. For selected applciations, with the $499 price point, it could be a killer device. Specifically, I am thinking medical and imaging applications, as I can see radiology groups, using some of these mobile iPads, utilizing the OsiriX DICOM radiology application. Other businesses and professionals will like the mobilitiy and fluidity of the applications, in eBooks, media, and video. I wonder how much RAM and VRAM,Jobs, used in the iPad, and what kind of ARM CortexA9 Soc benchmarks are. We will all eventually find out, down the line. Too bad, that the least expensive unit has only 16GB of flash Nand. I think Steve, should have “doubled” that amount for each device. Overall score, B.
I believe It’s Just a transitional Product, when the iBook kills kindle the iBook turn into OSX. When the Resolution of iPhone screen can be 1200*800, all the apps modified for iPad will move to iPhone as well. And the iPad running iPhone OS will finish its mission, It change to OSX and merge with Macbook Air until 1. the 256GB SSD is cheap enough, 2. iMac and Macbook are touch screen 3. USB 3.0 is popular 4. Apple buys dropbox
