The price of an iPhone may have changed, but has its cost?
Every iPhone owner under contract is, in effect, taking out a loan. That loan is paid back with substantial interest by the customer, over the years of the contract, under the guise of “monthly phone bill”.
and if you dare to actually use it to make phone calls you’ll end up spending much more, cause the base plans usually include just one hour of calls per month.
I wish some of that CRAZY capatializm could work here in the USA…
Here in Italy we have three different operators and prices are even lower.. the 8Gb 3G is generally free with contract for example..
It’s really absurd for us that you guys in US still have just 1 operator for the iPhone, makes no sense at all
The reason why there’s only one carrier in the US is largely a product of the split in mobile handset standards. CDMA vs GSM. If the iPhone remains GSM-only, which i suspect it will, then the only other available nationwide carrier for Apple to partner with would be T-Mobile, however this would necessitate and updated chipset, since AT&T and T-mobile use different 3G spectrums (1900 vs 1700). The other national providers (Verizon and Sprint) both utilize CDMA technology, which the iPhone is not designed to use.
It’s not nearly as simple as in Europe.
Looking forward to seeing iphone Ads on the parade train in the Tour de France =0)
Hi,
This means, if we get Verizon iPhones, figure we’ll be spending $30USD on an 8GB model.Amazing…
It doesn’t make business sense to make the iphone work on CDMA network when the rest of the world uses GSM
